Educational Approach
Our curriculum is interdisciplinary and includes a diversity of areas in which children can challenge and extend themselves through a range of experiences. We do not differentiate between play and work. Play is a child’s work. Indoors or out, sitting still or moving vigorously, every experience is an opportunity to learn. Learning is active rather than passive. Children are encouraged to extract personal meaning from their experiences, developing creative thinking and language skills.
We nurture children's creativity and ability to take personal risks to prepare for meeting life's challenges. For us, the goal of creativity is not an art product, but an approach to problem solving. Providing a child with a wide variety of materials and the freedom to experience and experiment will help her or him create her or his own reality. The process rather than the product is emphasized when appropriate.
We work to support basic moving, manipulative, and communication skills. We want children to both acquire factual information and develop the capacity to conceptualize and represent ideas. We recognize that self-esteem grows from possessing knowledge and skills in a diversity of areas and we provide multiple opportunities to learn and practice new skills. We nurture an excitement in learning, foster the desire to try, the courage to fail, and the persistence to continue their effort.
